Monday morning. Late again.

“I woke up at 1ike 10 o’clock, and I was late to go see her.  So I was throwing on my clothes and just trying to get out the door.”

For Jason Blanchard, September 6 was just like any other morning.  Eager to meet up with a new romantic interest, he was rushing to gather himself and head into town.  But before he could make it into the shower the landline started ringing.

It was a reverse 911 call saying there was a small fire in the area, but that evacuation was voluntary.

“So I thought okay, you know, no big deal.  I looked out the window and could see smoke, but it was blowing in the other direction and it didn’t look that serious.”

Deadline Piece: Fourmile Rebuild Forum

7 12 2010

Homeowners affected by the Fourmile Fire brought their questions to a rebuild forum at the East Boulder Senior Center on October 3.

Organized by the non-profit design community – Boulder Green Building Guild in partnership with 15th Street Design – the forum aimed to help homeowners get their rebuilding questions answered in a convenient, no-pressure environment.

“We would have loved to have 100 homeowners show up, but we only had 15 to 20,” said Brandy LeMae, Studio Manager of architecture and design studio WORKSHOP8.  “But we’re hopeful for the ones that did show up.  This is an opportunity to rebuild 169 energy efficient, green homes.”

Deadline Piece: Richards Photo Exhibition

7 12 2010

The opening reception for Cory Richards’ photography exhibition opened September 2, filling the Laughing Goat Coffeehouse on 1709 Pearl Street.  The photos will be on display for the month of September and 10 percent of the final proceeds will be donated to the buyer’s choice of either The Alex Lowe Charitable Foundation or Naropa University.

Cory Richards, local photographer and professional climber, has traveled to Nepal 16 times within the past 18 months. His latest collection is a composite of his travels over the past seven years, with the majority of his work completed within the past 18 months.

“The title of the show ‘the more I see…’ is finished by ‘…the less I know,’” Richards said.  “The basis of my work is observing people in their environment and taking images in a natural environment not available to the viewer.” Read the rest of this entry »

Typography project

17 11 2010

For the final project in my Meaning of Information Technology class we were asked to propose a final project idea and create it.  I chose to focus on typography – breaking it down into shapes and lines while highlighting common font types – with the ultimate goal of creating a potential watermark I could apply to my photos.  Here’s the final result.
